Johannes Matyassy

After Political Economics studies at the University of Bern, Ambassador Johannes Matyassy worked from 1983 to June 1985 as an assistant at the Institute of Political Economics of Bern University. From 1985 to 1995, he worked for the Federal office for External Economic Affairs (which is now called State Secretariat for Economic Affairs “SECO”), for the Integration Office of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, and finally as a diplomat in the Swiss Embassy in Buenos Aires.


From 1 December 1995 to June 1997, he was a personal advisor to the Federal Councillor, Jean-Pascal Delamuraz. During the period July 1997 to December 2000, he was General Secretary of the Free Democatic Party of Switzerland. Since 2001 he is as an Ambassador, CEO of Presence Switzerland, the official platform of Switzerland abroad. He also exercises another mandate since 2004, namely President of the Bernese Free Democatic Party of Switzerland.
