Gregory Ashwort studied at the St John’s College, Cambridge (BA. Hons., 1962), the University of Reading (M.Phil., 1967) and the Birkbeck College, University of London (PhD., 1974).
He taught at the University of Wales, Cardiff (Department of Geography, Cyncoed., 1966 to 1969), the University of Portsmouth (Department of Geography, 1969 to 1979), and the University of Groningen (Faculty of Spatial Sciences, 1979 until today). Since 1994, he is Professor of Heritage Management and Urban Tourism am Department of Planning at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Netherlands.
