Åsa Benteke was born 1971 in Kristianstad (Sweden). She studied politics and English at the University of Lund (Sweden) and Law and Institutions of the European Union and European Integration at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (Great Britain). In 1997, she did a Master of Political Science at the University of Lund.

From 1987 to 1990, she was a member of the board, and from 1990 1991 Chairman of the Board of the youth association of Föreningen Norden – cultural exchange between the Nordic countries.

From 1997 to 1999, she worked as an Assistant Coordinator for Ars Baltica – Baltic cultural cooperation – at the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Culture of Schleswig-Holstein in Kiel.

From 1999 to 2003, she worked as a Consultant of Culture, and from 2003 to 2006 as a Consultant of Press, Culture and Business, Social and Labour Consultant at the Swedish Embassy in Berlin.
